About us

Solar without the sales machine

We think homeowners should be able to buy solar equipment the way installers do, and hire labor the way they'd hire any other trade.

The residential solar industry grew up around door-to-door sales. That model works well for the companies knocking on doors, and much less well for the homeowner paying for it.

We took the opposite approach: buy modules and inverters by the container from the manufacturers, sell them to homeowners at close to installer cost, and give away the knowledge needed to run the project.

You end up with the same panels on your roof, installed by a licensed local crew you chose, for a number that usually starts with a one or a two per watt instead of a three or four.

How we operate

Four commitments

Equipment, not contracts

We make our margin on hardware. There is no lease, no PPA, and no twenty-year financing agreement.

No commissions

Nobody at DIY Solar is paid per closed deal, so nobody has a reason to oversize your system.

No referral kickbacks

We don't sell your contact information to installers or take a cut of their labor.

Transparent numbers

Per-watt pricing, published spec sheets, and honest labor benchmarks for your region.
